Who am I?

Who Am I?

A Self Introduction

By Zachary Reboletti

Student at University of Kentucky

Hello, I am Zachary Reboletti. I turned 18 last November and am a first year student at University of Kentucky. It is my second week here on campus, and I am currently feeling a bit of excitement but also some nervousness of what is to come in these unprecedented times. I am from Elmhurst, Illinois, a suburb about thirty minutes out from Chicago. I was originally born in Joliet, but have lived the majority of my life in Elmhurst.

I come from a hardworking family; my father is a lawyer and supervisor of Addison Township in DuPage County, but he used to be a State Representative of Illinois for about 12 years. Currently, due to the pandemic, his role has changed greatly. His work as a lawyer has taken a hit, mostly due to the delay of many hearings and the change to remote hearings of court cases. His other job as a supervisor of Addison Township has also become increasingly stressful in order to comply with COVID-19 regulations because he takes care of a lot of constituents of DuPage Country, especially with the food pantry he runs. My mother also just became Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX, and is facing the adversity of trying to sell homes in a pandemic. She has found it to be much harder with the new limitations on showing houses in person.

As for me, everything has been a lot different with the process of becoming a freshman in college. I have found myself in a unique situation, having to prepare for college in the midst of such an uncertain future with the global pandemic. The pandemic definitely made me change my choice in college because of monetary reasons, but also traveling reasons as well. I was originally planning on going to the University of Florida, but with this ever-changing virus, the school was too expensive and going to Florida would be somewhat frightening being a location with some of the highest numbers of cases in the United States. I am hopeful that this virus will end soon, but the daily stories of different universities moving online due to parties and large outbreaks its somewhat frightening to say the least. Either way, hopefully through the medium of this blog I am able to provide a different perspective on this pandemic from someone already going through the large adjustments that life in college offers regardless of COVID-19.
